Date With A MX518

Anyway after a couple of days after I handed over the draft to Stryker, he told me the mouse arrived. Yup another joyous moment in my life!!! But I had to wait another couple of days before I could get it in my hands. But there was bad news too. The courier charged 125 Rupees extra for the delivery for the mouse and the mailing of the draft which I think was a little too much considering the fact that VBEING SOFTWARE LIMITED had only charged 52.50 Rupees for 2 Counter-Strike Anthology packs to be delivered from New Delhi to Trvandrum and these guys were charging more than twice the charge for less than quarter of the distance. A bit unfair don’t you think?

Anyway coming back to the mouse, Stryker handed the mouse to Duttan making it easy for me to get the mouse as he was staying closer to my house. Finally I got to Duttan’s and got the much awaited MX518. I came home later that day and fitted it first time in my old Pentium 3 Computer and the mouse worked like a charm.

Getting used to the mouse was a bit tricky at first since it has this awkward shape compared to the normal mouse as it wasn’t symmetrical and it was specifically designed for a right handed person. For the first time I did feel a marked difference in the gameplay in UT2k4 and CS when played with the mouse.

  • First of all no Wheeling (What a Relief), Uses the MX Optical Engine

  • Smooth as silk moment

  • Very Comfortable grip Once I got used to it

  • Eight Buttons comfortably placed all accessible to finger tips

  • Not too heavy nor too light

  • I was pretty impressed by the on fly sensitivity adjustment in the mouse.

I wrote my name “FOX” under the mouse. And I feel very comfortable with it now but I still haven’t mastered it. It might take a lot of practice for mastering it and I still am working on it. The only problem is though not a serious is the fact that a Gaming Grade Mouse requires a Gaming Grade Pad to go with it. My dream pad is Func Surface1030, might not get it tough, I am trying to get a steelpad QCK as it is the one avialble around these areas. It’s basically a cloth pad that is used for low sensitivity players. But currently I have to be satisfied with my Little Mickey Mouse Cloth Pad which has a smaller surface area compared to the steelpad QCK or Func.

May be after the mouse hunt I got to start a Pad Hunt……….

The Mouse Hunt Continues....

On my way back from comsol I dropped by Viper’s house and got the news that the college will be closed down for a week or more due the clashes between the political parties. And it turned out to be violent therefore to settle things down a temporary close down of our college was issued by the principal.

This just meant that I just got a week long waiting to do. Days passed by and the wait was agonizing and finally the big day came so I called them over the phone at about 11.00 A.M

Me: Hello, Is this comsol
CD: Yes Me: I had ordered a Logitech MX518 about 5 days back, I would like know whether it has come
CD: Hmmm…Let me check
Me: O.K
CD: No it hasn’t come in the morning courier
Me: When will it come?
CD: May be in the afternoon courier
Me: O.K Thank You

I called them after 4.00 P.M and the reply was it would come in the next day’s courier. 3 More days passed with the same telephone conversation. In the meantime the college opened and I was running out of patience. I decided to go to comsol and ask them in person where is my mouse? And I was about to withdraw my down payment

So I got out of the college early and reached there by about 2.00 P.M and went inside to see the dealer. He was on the phone and asked me to take the seat.

Me: Yes I ordered a Logi…..
CD: Yes the Logitech Mouse, I don’t think they can get it for us
Me: Ohh
CD: They are also postponing the delivery date
Me: I see
CD: Its better that you take your money and order it from somewhere
Me: O.K

Those exact words came out of his mouth that I intended to say. Then he returned my money and that was the end of the deal with comsol.

It was time for Stryker’s idea call up the dealer in Ernakulam and do the job right this time. The only problem being that I couldn’t do it from my house. Because if I did this then my father would know about the 2,500 Rupees and would ask me why I am going to spent 2,600 on a mouse? The plan was to do all the ordering work through Stryker. And after a little pursuing he agreed to it.

In two days time I got a call from Stryker that the mouse was on its way from Ernakulam. All I had to do was to make a draft for 2,600 Rupees in name of “ONLINE PC ESSENTIALS” in Ernakulam. And hand it over to Stryker.

This isn’t the first time taking draft the 1st time was when I took draft for “Counter-Strike Anthology Pack”. Yup I did buy the Counter-Strike Original I felt the game deserved to be brought and stop using the pirated version. That time the draft was in name of “VBEING SOFTWARE LIMITED” and was going to New Delhi. I took it and mailed via speed post to New Delhi. It was another long wait and I was getting worried and posted a couple of messages in their forum. Fortunately the delay was due to a shortage of the game and they had to wait for the fresh stock to arrive. Finally I got my Counter-Strike after about 2 weeks of waiting. There were actually two copies of Counter-Strike one for my friend Frantic who was also an avid CS Gamer. The only problem was that I had to convince my father that the Counter-Strike copies were actually Linux in a Parcel.

Later that evening I handed over the draft to Stryker and crossed my fingers that everything will go well and I will get my mouse soon.

An Unexpected Turn Of Events

I am a pretty late blogger. Why? Because I am pretty lazy. Well it’s been sometime since the Dyuthi ’06 events. And I have been lazing around. My friends planned to go to Model Engineering College’s Technical Festival Excel 2006. But I decided not to, mainly because I was trying to give up attending technical events and going to them. I was on a hunt to get a Logitech MX518 Gaming Grade optical mouse for Counter-Strike. The plan was to make some money by selling F.R.I.E.N.D.S Seasons DVD that I ripped. And let me tell u it wasn’t a smooth journey. Everyone wants things for free; no one was willing to pay the price for the hard work.

In the meanwhile there were rumors about an Unreal Tournament (GOTY Edition) competition that was going to be held on 4th Sunday of February as a part of Colloquium – The Technical Festival of Mohandas College of Engineering. Duttan, Stryker and Shocky called me to join them on their trip to the competition. I being out of touch from the old UT was hesitant at first but then I joined them. Our main aim was to beat a guy named Rubin. He was the consecutive winner for the last two UT tourneys and we needed to kick his ass. Moreover Rs. 2500 was up for grabs and it cost only Rs. 2600 for the Logitech MX518 mouse. My hopes of winning was pretty faint as I was the least experienced of them, all 3 were mad players of UT2k4 and I was no were close to their skill so I knew I dint stand a chance.

The trip to M-CET wasn’t a pleasant one either. I collected Duttan from his house and traveled to Kesavadasapuram and kept my little sunny there. Then we waited for Stryker and Shocky to come in their bikes. Duttan got on to Stryker’s bike and me on to Shocky’s. Then the trip to college began Stryker rode ahead of us and got to the college very early. We lost our way on to the college and Ended up on the way to Araynad instead of Anad lol. Not a good omen especially when going for gaming.

Later on we reached college a little late. There events had not yet started so got ourselves a seat and waited for our turn for registration. I registered for UT as I did the last 3 times this time though it was only UT. I dint register for any other events. The catch this time was that there were no registration fees. We saw the list of participants it was around 41 with just the 4 of us from outside. I haven’t seen this many participants in a single gaming event expect maybe of course in games arena in Drishti ‘05. Well we knew that most were noobs but there could be the exceptional hidden talent just like Rubin the first time we played him.

The game rules were pretty set, we did argue for a fair competition with game speed being set to 100% and usage of external peripherals like Duttan’s MX510 and Stryker’s MX518. We had made a plan ahead of time that we all would not play in one single round to get eliminated by each other. The rules were 2 from each prelims goes into the next round. Duttan made it quite easy and he got his home ground Liandri. Stryker got Deck16][ and we could hear a lot of head shots. Shocky and I got in the same round the map was Phobos, I put my nick as “sdmf” which meant (Suck Dick Mother Fuckers) obviously nobody realized it. I was placed first and Shocky became second. We kicked their asses combined with Duttan’s Mouse I felt very godlike. And then there were 16 people left in the competition the rest 25 eliminated. We did face a crisis in the next round with me being put in the same heat with Stryker and Duttan, while Shocky was to play alone in the next heats. Obviously I dint stand a chance with both of them in the same round. So I made the excuse that I needed Duttan’s mouse and the coordinator put me in the same round as with Shocky and the map was Cybrosis][ . It was frag time and Rubin was there in that round. Shocky and I bashed the hell out of them. But in the middle of the game the server crashed and the game had to be restarted. And the same thing repeated Rubin was pushed to the third place by Shocky and I combined. I ended up second and Shocky first. After this it was Duttan’s and Stryker’s turn. The match was played in Liandri. Duttan’s once again proved why he is the lord of Liandri. He got 55 frags with just 30 deaths. It was pretty amazing. I termed that Duttan had a “Frag Lust”. The next were the semi finals. We had successfully eliminated all the external competions with Me, Duttan, Stryker and Shocky in the semi we had eliminated all the possibility of M-CET winning any prize in gaming.

The Semis were fixed as 1 on1. The two semis were to take place simultaneously this posed a great problem. I was using an MX510 during all the matches and suddenly to shift to a wheeling optical mouse and compete against Duttan with MX510 is not that easy. Both the semis were started I played against Duttan and Stryker against Shocky both in Deck16][. Shocky was raped by Stryker. As for Duttan and my game, odds were in favor of Duttan. I put my good old name (|053|2)^4_Fox for the semi. It was a 10 minute match and I had a hard time controlling the mouse. But I knew Duttan would be aggressive so I played my game a bit defensive allowing him to make the approach. Then I got him near the slime pit and flaked him and drew first blood being frustrated he began chasing, I just held my spot and played naturally. Frags kept coming and Duttan kept making mistakes so bad that he killed himself in the slime pit. I won the match with 3 to -1, Duttan had lost against me. I did say that this was bad luck and my lucky day since I haven’t won an official match with him.

The final was a battle between me and Stryker. I knew that Stryker is good in any arena with a Sniper Rifle. So I had to play dirty and asked him to host my home ground Ice Station Zeto. Now Zeto is a very closed map with excellect ability for reflective flaking. Also I had the advantage of knowing where the 150 shield was hidden. With map in my favour the odds were for me. It was just a matter of getting one frag. But there was a problem Stryker also knew this and he demanded for a toss. Duttan tossed and I won the toss, nothing could go wrong this day and the match began. About 5 minutes into the match I fragged him with a reflective flak and drew the first blood and from then on the game was mine. There were very good attempts by Stryker to frag me but all were in vain. Then when 2 minutes remained I fragged him taking the lead to 2. Finally the match ended with a 2- 0 score and me winning the match.

It was a moment of triumph for me, I had won my first tourney. After so many defeats and close calls I finally got my long awaited victory. Also with Rs. 2500 as the prize money now I could afford to buy me a Logitech MX518 Gaming Grade Optical Mouse.

All of them congratulated me on my victory and I was still in my fantasy world of winning. We all went to have lunch and then we took off from the college giving the responsibility of collecting the prize to a junior. On our way back we remembered that we dint give the registration fee and then Duttan and Stryker went back while Shocky and I were on our way home. Shocky dropped me off at Kedaram in Keshavadasapuram and I took my Sunny home. Later on Duttan told me that he had also collected the prize and there was no registration money. The rest of the day went without many events. I was dreaming of buying me a MX518 soon hopefully.

The Mouse Hunt

It was election time in the college and the results were declared on Friday two days before my victory in M-CET on the preceeding Sunday. I dint go for the voting held on Friday, I was spending the whole day in Metech gaming in CS. Anyway we usually have a victory day celebrations in the next working day by the winning party of the college and it’s usually a holiday. So this meant Monday was a holiday more over it was project day for me so I dint get a chance to go to check about the Logitech MX518 Gaming Grade Optical Mouse.

The next day it was usual college but things at college wasn’t so cool. S.F.I had won all except one of the seat that was of the s8 representative. This seat was won by the opposing party i.e V.O.C. There were high tensions in the college and on the previous victory day celebrations there was a fight between the two parties. V.O.C called for a strike for this on this day and we call go to go home. Yuppie!!!!!

After reaching home I took my little Sunny and set off for the mouse hunt. Now the problem with such specific and expensive piece of hardware is that is very rare to be found especially for the local computer marts here. Now Stryker who had a real bad experience in buying the MX518 had to order it by courier from a dealer in Ernakulam. But I was too lazy for doing the courier so I decided to do it the easy way.

  1. Go to the dealer

  2. Ask him to order the MX518

  3. Negotiate the terms

  4. Wait for its arrival

  5. Get it from the dealer when it comes

Easy you think? Well NO! And I learnt it the hard way. Let’s see what happened,

  1. I went to the dealer (Comsol) and asked them about did they order computer peripherals on demand for the customer and their answer was YES!!

  2. This is what happened next between the Comsol Dealer (CD) and Me:

CD: Yes Please have a seat
Me: Thank You, I would like to order a Logitech MX158
    CD: What’s that again?
Me: Its an optical mouse used in gaming and it’s pretty expensive
CD: Hmm..Let me Phone and enquire
    Me: O.K
CD: Ya its available but it will cost you Rs. 2850
Me: Hmm..But my friend ordered it for 2650
    CD: We can make adjustments
Me: So when will I get it ?
CD: Well you need to put a down payment of Rs. 1000
    Me: O.K
CD: You will get it in 5 days from the date of down payment
    Me: O.K Fine.

  3. We negotiated the terms and the dealer agreed to reduce may be 100 to 150 from the original price. The only problem being that I dint have the money with me at present since Duttan collected the price money. So I had to go to his house to get the money and the certificate and then come back to the dealer.

Me: O.K, I got the money
CD: O.K so what is that product u wanted to order?
Me: It’s the Logitech 518 Mouse
CD (writing): And there was something before the 518 right
    Me: Yes MX
CD: O.K, You will get it in 5 days from today
    Me: O.K Thanks

    Saying these words we departed.

  4. The Waiting Starts…….
