Dummies Guide To Catching A Fox

Hmm...How do you catch a fox?

  1. Release a couple of fox hounds and expect them to hunt down the fox
  2. Set a trap using cages designed to catch foxes, hoping a fox steps in
  3. Take a sniper rifle with a heat seeking scope and take a head shot
Foxes are known to be cunning and solitary so catching one may need subtler ways than these.

I was carrying this banner helping a couple of friends of mine tie up things in a college fest. It was then I was stopped by a girl, just like that. She asked me if I knew her (Oops...I hate those kind of questions, the problem is I have this issue with remembering faces that I do not see often), and since I am no guy who is good at beating around the bush, I just gave a frank "No", I thought it would end there, but no she was very persistent, she said that she used to come to the same coaching class as mine. Dang!! Now why did it not click in my mind. I said "Oh Yeah, now I remember", she asked me "So how is your results? 98, 97, 96" (my family is pretty much devastated by my results), very enthusiastic young girl, she was asking me a lot of things like where I am going to apply, what are my plans? etc, I guess I swallowed my tongue, most of my answers were one liners. Sad I know...Next came the shocking part, she asked for my mobile number (don't worry this is not the shocking part yet), I gave my usual answer, "I don't know, hold on let me get my mobile, I have the number inside that, could you just hold on for a second."

Yes, Yes, I know you must all be thinking WTF? You cant remember your own mobile number? the answer yes, I can't, another disability I have. I thought she had enough of me, but no not yet, she gave me a missed call and said that it her mobile number. I said OK, and said bye. But she asked me before I left whether, I will be back tomorrow, I said "May be, don't know I may be preoccupied with other things, I will let you know."

After that chat, I came to a bit of self realization, I looked like a cave man, without having been shaven for about 5 weeks and an unwashed jeans with a sweaty shirt and a dusty bag on the back. Hmm...Strange why would any one ask my phone number.

Most of the day passed without much events other than the fact that I got to watch a lot of "World of Goo" a game with an attitude, must play.

Reached home late evening, logged into chat and there she was "Irene", I mentioned this incident to her and she was like "The Girl's got guts" (edited by Grey.Fox, Irene used a bit more "French"), you should definitely take this girl out, pay for whatever she has and not to disappoint her. It was then the bulb got lit in my empty head. Frantic called in the night as usual and I mentioned this incident to him and we both laughed over it.

Hmm...Some might remember about this post, well I guess the tables are pretty much turned here. The hunter is the hunted?!

Anyway I decided to go there the next day, I send out a message to, lets call her Miss A. And I was running around the stall trying to fix some broken hardware and Miss A shows up, again dumbstruck, I stood there a few moments did not know what to say, talk about deafening silence. I told her that there is some problem with one of the hardware with the device we put up in the stall and I was trying to fix it without any luck. And then I stepped outside with her, then she said to me that she might be busy today, she was compering for one of the events taking place called "Voice Hunt", I said OK, and then the announcement came over the mic, "Miss A of is requested to report to the prilims area of Voice Hunt", I said carry on, I will catch you later.

Again most of the day went uneventful. By about 3 PM things were being would up and I was about to leave, I send an SMS saying that, "Sorry I couldn't meet you, I will catch up with you another day", She replied back requesting me to stay be a bit more as she wanted to meet me. I said OK. Then the most wonderful thing happened, a rock band had come to play for the event at the college and guess what they were going to play "Pink Floyd" Woo Hoo baby, I haven't been to a live concert before, this is as good as it gets, they started off with "Coming Back to Life" and let me tell you they were pretty damn good, except for some distortion with the bass, I think it was the speakers to blame.

After the song completion, Miss A comes along and she asks me where should we go, there is Juice corner in the Canteen or we could go outside to have some milk shake, I said it was her call :), she decided to go for the milk shake, I said I am fine.

We walked out from the college premisis and I was explaining how much I love "Pink Floyd" to her and I asked her if she were into rock. She said she was more of a classical music person, more like the Carnatic style I guess. My knowledge is not that good at classical stuff, so I did not ask a lot. I hope to get to know more about it from her though. We slowly walked towards the shop, I passed near the grounds where I learnt to drive a car and a geared 2 wheeler. I shared some of the experiences with her. She was a very cheerful person, she had long hair which she had neatly tied, fair skin color, brown eyes, her face was the most striking feature, she looked like a doll (forgive my "French"), I just dont have enough words now to describe her more accurately. We reached the shop and she ordered two milk shakes and we took a seat near a corner, we chatted for about 45 minutes. We alternated turns, we discussed things from why I quit my job to my views of life. She is a very good listener she patiently listened to all the things I was saying, she also described her family especially how close she was with her sister. She also mentioned she liked "Computer Science" as a subject and she was not interested in Management. Now that was a real turn on for me.

I also described I am a bit stubborn and arrogant at times. And that I spend a lot of time in computers, my life has more or less been a life engrossed in computers, she was quite surprised to hear that I do not do much other than computers. I do not know what kind of an impression I made in her mind about myself, but she did leave a permanent impression in mine. It was half way through I noticed that I barely had my milk shake when she had about 3/4th of it. Talk about the self realization of being a blabber mouth, she waited me to get to the 3/4th mark and then we finished the milk shake. I apologized to her for not being able to recognize her early on, I told her that I have this problem in recognizing faces and I have a problem in remembering numbers.

Then I took money out to pay for the milk shakes, but then she was more agile than me, she just ran over the counter and paid for both of us, I stood there like a big jack ass, asking her to take my share of the money. I tried to persuade her, but due to my extraordinary skills in persuasion, I finally got to put the money in my pocket, but I made a deal that the next time we meet I pay the bills. Then we both walked back to the college. I showed her my 2 wheeler and showed that it is my ride and then I told her that it used to be a Sunny, she laughed and said that she also has a Sunny, we both had a hearty laugh over that. We both shook hands and bid farewell.

We still keep in touch via SMS, I hope to meet her again one day.

Now I got that feeling once again.
I cant explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

So how do you catch the fox?...

Answer: Don't it is useless...Still Waiting...Life is a mess

De-engineering

Before I go on with the actual post read the following.

Ever experienced sudden lightness in a lift that goes down, I never even imagined you explain it this way too.

If that is not enough, read the "new" laws of friction.

It might seem funny at first glance, I do not disagree. But these are supposidly the engineers of the future. I do not know this person will make it through the course, but the fact still remains most of the people who pass are in a sense not a lot better than the one who wrote the above answers.

I do not say that most people are idiots, just the people no longer aspire to be an engineer. It is more of a mechanical process of getting a degree these days. Just that the whole population is after an engineering degree or a degree in medicine. Many of the students are forced to take up an engineering course just because their parents force them to.

It is also true that a lot of MNCs come to engineering colleges to actually recruit students for their company, so this kind of gives a lot of people a free ticket to get a job even before passing out of the college. Something that the previous generation is not even aware of. In that generation people after passing out had to search for a job, the old fashioned way, apply for offers write tests etc it used to be a long process and one had to work hard to get a job. Today with the boom in the IT sector getting a job has become a piece of cake (I say this even in this period of recession, I am pretty sure things will fall back in place one day.) So engineering was seen more of a job opportunity than a discipline.

It is also sad to see that engineering has been downgraded to such an extend that people no longer value their projects. Projects are what once used to define the outcome of an engineering student's application of his / her knowledge in that subject. Today it has become a business, many "Government" institutes offer a certificate of doing project at their premises. Well the fact remains that most of the project done this way usually never sees the daylight and the code is also not given to the students, so in the end they don't have much to present in terms of project (I am talking about computer science and engineering specifically.) So in other words people just make money of the poor students. These days I was even surprised to hear that some of the institutes say that one does not need to submit the code if they do their project in a "Government" institute, making the students more motivated to just get over with the project part as soon as possible.

Most people who pass out never tend to follow their discipline too, people who pass out if they do not go in for a job tend to go for an MBA. Which I see as a 4 years wastage in engineering, the 4 years is completely wasted when u go for an MBA as most of your training is gone to wastage as what you learn there has nothing to do with engineering. And you will be working in an industry that probably has nothing to with engineering in the first place. Those people who pursue a higher degree in Engineering are some of the select few who has genuine interest, but then again we can see people just going for another degree, no passion for the subject.

I do not know if my fate is sealed to be just a wanderer...

Fuckin'A!!!

Totally fuckin'A...

Here is the situation.

You buy a 500 GB HDD a god damn brand new one and guess what it develops a couple of bad sectors. OK so shit happens may be you got a defective one. 3 Months later you buy another 500 GB HDD. Here is the question, probability it will fail completely?

The answer 1

Fuckin'A, you might not have guess that it would be 1 right, but in my case it is, that is why it is a fuckin'A thing.

Two brand new HDD got busted one after another. The second one was the worst all my important data went to heaven along with it. Songs, Pictures, Games, Movies, Hall Tickets to my examinations, Study Materials and what not...

Looks like my die roll theory still hold up at least for me.

My other HDD is on its way to meet me, I hope it does not crash and burn on its way to me.
